there’s been a text post going around that actually really bothers me. it says something like “white people freak out when you’re wearing a tshirt for a band you don’t listen to but don’t care if you wear a headdress from a culture you’re not a part of.”
normally i seriously give zero fucks about “white people” jokes or commentary and i’m honestly really irritated by the whole social justice movement, but this particular thing pisses me off, because the “white people” part is so unnecessary. why not just say “people”? i’m sure people of other races have done the same damn thing, it’s not like ingrained in our white person dna.
also it’s trying to apparently call out racism using racism?? like ok you have a problem with some racist tendency so you’re going to be racist yourself and somehow that’s okay?? no, you’re being a hypocrite and you’re negating any integrity your statement ever had.
i’m sorry it just really bothers me every time it comes on my dash and i really wish people would stop reblogging it. :/
Tumblr, you’ve succeeded today in only one regard, and that is pissing me off in a myriad of ways. Normally you’re a nice place for me to go to express myself and find out about things I love while having a place to vent and share ideas. Today, not so much. It seems like all I’ve seen today is hostility on my dash, people shoving each other’s opinions down each other’s throats, and everybody believing that they are the ultimate harbinger of truth and justice. I’ve dipped into these discussions a little but I backed off once I realized how ignorant and superfluous most of them were. Then I just sat back and had to watch the bullshit unfold. I’m a bit rattled by how angry everyone seems to be and how easily a statement can go from an opinion to an all-out war.
This isn’t why I started using you, tumblr. This isn’t cool. Whatever you’ve been up to lately, it needs to stop. I want my happy dash back. Save the drama for Obama.
